Echinocereus engelmannii
The mid-fall picture of this "(Cactus) King of the West" species. It has been about 6 months sine the last rains hit the area, back in spring. The plants lost water and have very fierce spiny look. Note the smaller spine clusters on the ground - those are the areoles that were dropped from the ripe fruit, meaning yes, this is flowering size plant.
